How to make money when you live a self-sufficient lifestyle
A self-sufficient lifestyle does not mean you have to have thousands of acres somewhere in the middle of nowhere. A self-sustaining life outside the system can happen no matter where we are. In fact, an independent life has more to do with our way of thinking and not what surrounds us.
Make money by being self-sufficient
Let me explain what I mean here. Last winter, I spent the weekend at a Missouri farmer’s house. He and his wife spent countless hours that weekend giving me reasons why sustainable agriculture and out of the system is a thing of the past. They were surrounded by 140 acres, and none of them was a thing for them.
On the flip side of the coin, I’ve met many people who live sustainably off the system, using live what they have and sometimes this means they only have a balcony or a lot of 300 m2 or less.
The biggest obstacle that our family has to be self-sustaining is money. Like many others, we have invoices to pay and land payment to make. Also when we are debt free, there will still be general support payments and property taxes. Although the whole point of self-sufficiency is the reduction of consumption, the reality is that you will always need some income.
So how do you make money, live a self-sustaining life outside the system?
Start immediately:
-Reduce maintenance costs
-Consume less commercially prepared products
-Close possessions
-Reduce your living space
That can be accomplished through a diversity of means. Maybe turn off the TV, rethink these objects now consider needs, sell everything you have not used in a year or more, and reducing your living space. By doing these few things, you will save a ton of money in various areas (e.g., consumption expenses, heating, cleaning, cooling).
Then you start to generate revenue by:
1. Follow Your Matters and Do What You Love Before you do anything else, do what you love and follow provisions. Steve Jobs said he would look in the mirror every morning and ask: If today was the last day of my life, would I want to do what I do today? And whenever the answer is NO for many days in a row, I know I need to change something.
2. Eat your garden and sell the use of rest every square inch of your property for production. Focus on planting evergreen plants that return year after year and require few concerns (e.g., nuts, fruit, etc.). Part of it meets your family’s provisions and sells the remainder for profit. Consider joining a local farming community as a producer or a farmer’s market.
3. Sell your eggs from reared chickens outdoors A simple way to make money at a very good time. Some farmers are making a real profit in raising and selling grazing eggs.
4. Start a school on the farm can do on a land or even in an urban/suburban environment. Open your house to teach people the old ways of doing things. There has been a huge gap in knowledge. The wisdom that one has been passed down from generation to generation has been lost in many ways. People are eager for a revival of modern information.
5. Turn your crafty skills into a profitable business making candles, soaps, lotions, home / reused clothes. This list is endless and all to do with the number 1: do what you love. Etsy is a great way to show your material to a wide range of people.
6. Write begins the chronicle of your interests. Use social media to your advantage. Starts a hub page. Create a blog ( Word Press, Blogger, Tumblr, etc.) Privacy Policy | I promise you, someone will find your thoughts valuable.
7. Farm Holiday Destination If you are one of the lucky ones to own a small or large farm, consider opening a part of it as a holiday destination, perhaps Ecotourism?
Creating ways to reduce consumption and increase production, is the only useful movement method for independence. Self-sustaining life has to do with reducing our dependence on someone to meet our needs.
Consider what makes you feel alive. Stop limiting yourself. Go ahead! How to make money when you live a self-sufficient lifestyle
