The study and worship of the Vedic texts remained but diverged in the different importance given to certain passages and characters. Balinese Hinduism stands out, in particular, the relief given to the holy book Ramayana and, in it, the character of the mythical bird Garuda, on the back of which Shiva flies through the heavens. It is this mythological animal that gives its name, incidentally, to the Indonesian flag airline.
