After this first crash, Kubica's Sauber cruised the track to the outer wall of the curve. When the car finally stopped, only the survival cell and the engine and gearbox were left, with a single wheel hanging. The pilot's feet were exposed by breaking the nozzle and the tip of the cockpit. Kubica was conscious and was taken to the medical center and later to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had suffered a mild concussion and an ankle twist. He spent the night in observation and left the hospital the next day.
