Alex Zanardi made his most competitive race of the 2001 season, leading the race at the EuroSpedway Lausitz in Germany after dropping from the bottom of the grid. In the last few laps, he made a pit stop and, by the time he got back on track, his car rolled and got in the way of Patrick Carpentier.
