Mrs. Soffel This true, twisted romance between a real life housewife Kate Soffel and killer Ed Biddel. Kate was in the habit of visiting prisoners in a jail where her husband was warden, to read to the prisoners. Shockingly , she falls in love with inmate Ed Biddel for whom she leaves her husband and children. Ed was on death row for murder. On 30th January 1902, Kate Soffel helped Ed Biddle and his brother Jack escape from the Allegheny County Jail. But two days later, both Biddle brothers are killed and Kate suffers an injury. She served two years in prison for helping in the escape. She died in 1909 after contracting typhoid.
