With only 2 planes ever built, this stealth fighter was flown about 50 times for a total of 65 hours. There was a fierce competition between the YF-22 and YF-23, and the Air Force chose the 22. The YF-22 cruised at Mach 1.58 versus the YF-23’s top speed of Mach 1.43. As of late 2004, Northrop Grumman has discussed a possible revival of the plane, but this conversation ended in 2006 as the military indicated a preference for a longer range bomber.
