You can see the two X-13 survivors today. One is at the Gillespie Field section of the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The other is in Dayton, Ohio at the National Museum of the USAF. So why didn’t it ever catch on as a viable option for the Air Force? It lacked an operational requirement. But it was fun while it lasted. How many planes can take off vertically, fly horizontally, then switch back to vertical?
