As the daughter of a vicar, it won't come as a surprise that the British prime minister strayed from controversial job roles during the beginning of her career. May worked as a financial consultant for the Bank of England between 1977 and 1983, and as a senior advisor in international affairs at the Association for Payment Clearing Services.
