In 1989, a small capsule containing highly radioactive cesium 137 was discovered inside a concrete wall of an apartment building in Kramatorsk, Ukraine. This capsule had a surface gamma-radiation exposure dose rate of 1800 R/year killing six people and affecting 17 others.
