Frozen bubbles in the waters of Alberta’s Lake Abraham look like they could make beautiful jewels if someone bothered taking them out of the water. However, these bubbles are actually made of methane, a highly flammable gas.The methane bubbles are formed in the water when dead organic matter falls into the water and sinks to the bottom. The bacteria then eats on the matter and releases methane, which then turns into white floating “bubbles” when it contacts frozen water.
