Lake Natron

Located in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania, Lake Natron is a salt and soda lake and is characterized by the color red or pink, due to the photosynthesizing pigment that produces the deep color as well as the microorganisms that live there.The lake is the only regular breeding area in East Africa for the 2.5 million lesser flamingos. Due to their dependence on this one sight, the flamingos are “near threatened”.
