Probably one of the most beautiful sights you will ever see on earth are the northern lights, otherwise known as aurora borealis. Predominantly seen in high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) areas, the aurora is a natural display of lights in the sky. The phenomenon occurs when certain particles connect with the Earth’s magnetic shield and then journey to the North Pole where they correlate with the atmosphere’s upper layers. The released energy is what is referred to as the Northern Lights. The best time to see the aurora lights in Greenland is on a dark autumn or winter night. If you don’t mind the cold, head to Alaska for better views.
