Revolutionary Guard launches drill for the Basij's day

The IRGC also has a powerful presence in Iran's civilian institutions. It controls the Basij Resistance Force (Mobilisation of the Oppressed), an Islamic volunteer militia of about 100,000 men and women. The Basij are loyalists to the revolution who are often called out onto the streets to use force to dispel dissent.
