History of the Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK)

The Islamic Republic's Chief Prosecutor banned MEK demonstrations. In an open letter to Ayatollah Khomeini, the MEK warned that if all peaceful avenues were closed off they would have no choice but to return to "armed struggle." In a letter to President Bani-Sadr, the MEK requested the president as the "highest state authority, to "protect the rights of citizens, especially their right to demonstrate peacefully."
