Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a tweet on Wednesday also sympathized with the people of Lebanon and said Iran “stands by them in this painful tragedy”. Among other senior Iranian figures who have issued statements of solidarity with the people of Lebanon include Defense Minister Amir Hatami, Health Minister Saeed Namaki, IRGC chief Gen. Hossein Salami, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. In a telephone call with his Lebanese counterpart on Wednesday, Health Minister Namaki offered to provide medical treatment to the victims of the explosion in Iranian hospitals.
