History Behind The Name ‘Antalya’
The city was known as Attaleia, Attalia, Satalia, and Andalya as it was founded by the king of Pergamum, Attalus II. Later, it came to be known as Antalya.Antalya, the main city of this region is the largest city on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey with its charming harbour.It is typical of Turkey, a thriving modern city, with a historic heart in the centre of Kaleici, within the old city walls. The symbol of Antalya is the Yivli Minaret built by the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubat in the 13th century. Culture lovers will find plenty of interest in the Archaeological Museum which has artefacts from the Paleolithic Age right through to Ottoman times.
