Loss of Appetite
One common early symptom of thiamine deficiency is a loss of appetite, or anorexia. Scientists believe that thiamine plays an important role in the regulation of satiety. It helps control the “satiety center” located in the hypothalamus of the brain.Certain vitamins and minerals, including zinc and vitamin B-1, can increase appetite. However, these usually only work if the person has deficiencies in these nutrients. Other supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids, may boost appetite.
