When he was 16, he used to attend speeches held by senior clerics in Mashhad. Due to his religious beliefs, he and several of his classmates established Islamic Pupils Association. In 1977, a strong earthquake struck the city of Tabas in the Khorasan Province. Ghalibaf collected aid for quake-stricken people in Tabas.
