According to the World Wide Fund For Nature, over 100 people are killed by elephants each year in India and over 200 people have been killed by elephants in Kenya over the last seven years. In retaliation people kill elephants. Between 50 and 120 'problem' elephants are killed each year in Kenya. To tackle the problem, the Fund is teaching communities how to deter animals from their crops and homes by bordering them with chilli, for example, which elephants hate.
