At first glance, cosmetic surgery may seem like an odd way to celebrate this big step into adulthood, but in South Korea, plastic surgery has almost become a rite of passage. As one of the plastic surgery capitals of the world, nearly 1 million plastic surgery procedures take place in South Korea each year. NPR reported that roughly " of Korean women between the ages of 19 and 29 years old have undergone some kind of plastic surgery, the majority of which were Blepharoplasties (or eyelid lifts). Plastic surgery in South Korea has become so popular, in fact, that Seoul’s international airport considered including a stop-in cosmetic surgery clinic in the airport to accommodate the large number of tourists flocking to the country for procedures.
