Immigration is defined as leaving one’s country of origin to permanently settle in another. In 2015, the United States had the largest immigrant population in the world at 47 million people. That is approximately 14 percent of the entire US population. It is obvious given these numbers that America is perceived as being a good destination for individuals and families intending to leave their homeland. But why is this the case?
