The Woman Behind 'Self-Made Man'

Vincent, who was a lesbian but not transgender, detailed her own feelings about the experiment as well as the reactions of others in “Self-Made Man,” a popular bestseller that brought her substantial media attention. She followed the book with another work of immersive journalism, “Voluntary Madness,” about her time as an inpatient in mental institutions. Vincent also wrote two novels, “Thy Neighbor” and “Adeline.”
