"I regret every last thing in terms of my decision to run away to Syria with my child," she said. "I live with them consequences every day." After less than three months, Ms Shakil fled into Turkey and returned to the UK, where she went on to be arrested, tried, and jailed for six years. She said de-radicalisation had been "a long journey" and now hopes her case can serve as a warning about the dangers of extremism. "I remember feeling really sad, really bitter, really taken advantage of and duped," she said. "I remember feeling really ashamed of myself to some degree that I allowed it to happen."
