Pentecost Island is located in the South Pacific and is part of the Vanuatu nation. It can lay claim to having what we could describe as being the origins of bungee jumping. And here’s why… According to local legend, the wife of a native man called Tamalie was fed up with his abuse and decided to run off into the jungle. She scaled a tree to escape his violence whilst he was in hot pursuit. As Tamalie pursued his wife through the branches, she tied long vines around her ankles, and in fear for her life, leapt into the air.
