A Director interprets a script and helps assemble the crew of people that s/he communicates his/her vision to in order for the crew to help execute that “vision,” or interpretation, of the story. Before filming starts, a period called pre-production, the Director is part of casting the roles (though not always, there are exceptions, like in TV series), “scouting” or choosing locations, deciding on the “look” or “texture” and “tone” of the film — will it be dark, light, scary, genre-specific, etc.?
