Benazir Bhutto's trip to Tehran in 1995

In elections held in October 1993 the PPP won a plurality of votes, and it succeeded in beating out Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) party in every province—including Sharif’s home province of Punjab—except Balochistan. In her second term, Bhutto made headway in Pakistan’s relations abroad, attracted foreign investment in the country, and implemented social programs.
