When we’re young, other people’s opinions tend to matter a great deal to us. These opinions don’t need to be about us, but also ideas on life, philosophy, current events, and so on. After age 40, their opinions mean significantly less. Yes, others are entitled to their opinions, but that doesn’t mean we care about them. If we want to hear their opinions, we’ll ask them.
Furthermore, we stand by our own ideas and convictions instead of being easily influenced by others. We can respect what they think, but we don’t have to agree with them or support them.
