Ayatollah Khomeini, born on September 24, 1902, was an Iranian religious leader and politician. He played a significant role in the Islamic Revolution in Iran, leading to the overthrow of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in 1979. Khomeini was known for his conservative and anti-Western stance, promoting an Islamic government in Iran based on the concept of "Wilayat al-Faqih" (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist), where the Supreme Leader holds ultimate political and religious authority. He became the Supreme Leader of Iran and held the position until his death on June 3, 1989.
