From cleaning and decorating the home to shopping for new clothes and gifts, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air leading up to Nowruz. One of the most important customs associated with Nowruz is the setting of the Haft-Seen table. This table is adorned with seven symbolic items, each starting with the Persian letter "S" (or "Seen" in Farsi), representing different blessings for the new year. These items typically include sprouts (Sabzeh) for rebirth, apples (Sib) for beauty and health, vinegar (Serkeh) for age and patience, garlic (Seer) for protection, sumac (Somagh) for the sunrise of a new day, gold coins (Sekkeh) for wealth and prosperity, and a bowl of wheat or barley (Senjed) for strength and power.
