Early Life and Political Awakening
Saddam Hussein was born on April 28, 1937, in the village of Al-Awja near Tikrit in Iraq. He came from humble beginnings, his father died before he was born, and his mother struggled to raise him and his siblings. Despite his difficult childhood, Saddam was able to attend school and showed early promise as a student. He eventually moved to Baghdad to pursue further education and became involved in politics, joining the pan-Arab Ba'ath Party in the early 1950s.
