Serê Sal is believed to coincide with the creation of the universe and the planting of the Garden of Eden, symbolizing the beginning of a new cycle of life and prosperity. The celebration of Serê Sal typically takes place on the Wednesday of the first week of April, marking the first day of the Yazidi new year. The festivities begin with a purification ritual in which believers cleanse themselves and their homes, seeking forgiveness for past sins and shortcomings. This ritual is followed by prayers, rituals, feasting, dancing, and other traditional customs. One of the most important aspects of Serê Sal is the lighting of the sacred fire, a symbol of the eternal flame of Tawûsê Melek.
