From heart surgery to becoming the president

In 2000, Pezeshkian was elected to the Iranian parliament, known as the Majlis, representing the city of Tabriz. During his tenure, he advocated for significant reforms in health care, women's rights, and educational improvements. He used his position to highlight the importance of public health initiatives, emphasizing the need for a more equitable healthcare system. His experience as a physician allowed him to articulate concerns that many citizens had about access to medical services.
