Following the cessation of hostilities in 1988, a long and arduous process of reconstruction began in Abadan. With determined efforts, Iran embarked on the task of rebuilding its vital petroleum refining and petrochemical industries in the city, albeit on a smaller scale than before the war. Slowly but surely, the city began to heal, its people returning to rebuild their lives and their community amidst the remnants of the conflict.
