Asparagus
Asparagus is famously known for causing a distinct odor in urine, but its effects can sometimes extend to body odor as well. This unique characteristic is attributed to asparagusic acid, a sulfur-containing compound found exclusively in this vegetable. When the body metabolizes asparagusic acid, it breaks down into several volatile sulfur compounds, including methanethiol and dimethyl sulfide. While the primary excretion route is through the kidneys, leading to the characteristic urine smell, a small percentage of these compounds can also be released through the skin via sweat. The resulting body odor, though often subtle, can carry a faint, somewhat sulfuric or "vegetal" note.
