Photographer’s shock and discovery
Javier Alonso de Medina Salguero, a seasoned aviation photographer, was stationed among the media risers when he snapped a rapid burst of shots of the Typhoon in flight. He says he was originally unaware anything had gone wrong. It was only after hearing a radio broadcast that the jet had been forced to halt its routine—reportedly due to a bird strike—that he reviewed his images. That’s when he realized he had inadvertently captured the entire harrowing sequence: the seagull before impact, the moment of collision, and the shattered canopy in the aftermath.
