Among the most essential and religiously significant items on the Sofreh are the Holy Qur’an, symbolizing divine blessing and the spiritual guidance that will illuminate the couple's path, and the mirror (Ayneh), representing the couple’s ability to see into the future and reflect happiness and clarity in their lives. The mirror is placed facing the bride and groom so that the first thing they see as a married couple is their reflection together, a powerful visual metaphor for their lifelong partnership. Two candlesticks, representing fire and light, are placed on either side of the mirror, symbolizing energy and passion, and extinguishing the darkness of ignorance or misfortune.
