Temporary hair loss, commonly known as "shock loss," is one of the more alarming, yet benign, side effects that can occur. This usually happens a few weeks to a couple of months after the procedure and involves the shedding of both the newly transplanted hair and, occasionally, some existing hair in the surrounding areas. This is a temporary reaction to the trauma of the surgery, and the hair follicles typically recover, beginning to regrow permanent hair within a few months. Patients are always counselled about this phenomenon beforehand to manage their expectations.
