7. The Judiciary and Anti-Corruption Rhetoric
The Iranian Judiciary, often headed by high-ranking clerics from influential families (like the Larijani brothers, who have themselves faced accusations), frequently employs strong anti-corruption rhetoric. However, the application of justice is perceived as highly selective. While low-ranking officials or politically vulnerable figures are often given harsh sentences, cases involving figures from the Supreme Leader’s inner circle or powerful clerical institutions often languish, are handled opaquely, or result in nominal consequences. This perceived double standard further erodes public trust in the state's willingness to fight corruption at its highest levels.
