The first and arguably most detrimental category is carbonated beverages (sodas and soft drinks). These liquids are a double threat because they combine an extraordinarily high sugar load with corrosive acids like phosphoric and citric acid. Even diet versions, which lack the sugar, retain the high acidity that rapidly dissolves the protective layer of tooth enamel, a process known as erosion. With every sip, the mouth's pH level drops significantly, keeping the enamel vulnerable to damage for prolonged periods and making them a primary enemy of sound dentition.
