5. Patchy Hair Loss (Alopecia)
Hair loss is not always due to genetics or stress. Sometimes, the immune system identifies hair follicles as foreign invaders and attacks them. The result is hair falling out in small patches on the scalp or other parts of the body. Alopecia areata is one of the clearest signs that the immune system has become confused. In some cases, the skin inflammation caused by the immune system is so severe that it leads to permanent loss of hair follicles in specific areas.
