Technical mastery is another layer of the presenter’s toolkit that must be practiced until it becomes second nature. This includes the ability to read a teleprompter (autocue) naturally so it sounds like spontaneous speech, as well as the skill of "talkback"—listening to a director’s instructions in an earpiece while simultaneously interviewing a guest. Mastering these technical hurdles allows the presenter to stay present and authentic. If a presenter looks like they are thinking too hard about the technology, the audience immediately loses that sense of personal connection.
