The exact cause of Restless Legs Syndrome has not yet been fully discovered, but researchers believe that a dysfunction in "dopamine" levels in the brain plays a key role. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter responsible for controlling muscle movement, and any imbalance in its levels can send incorrect nerve signals to the limbs. Additionally, genetics play an important role in this disease; more than half of those affected have a family history of the condition. Furthermore, factors such as pregnancy (especially in the third trimester) and hormonal changes can temporarily trigger or exacerbate the symptoms.
