The Moral and Legal Reckoning: Why Supporters of Suppression Will Face Justice

The concept of transitional justice provides the roadmap for how this accountability will be achieved. In many post-revolutionary societies, such as those in South Africa, Argentina, or post-Soviet Eastern Europe, specialized courts and truth commissions were established to investigate the abuses of the former regime. These bodies are designed to unearth the truth, provide a platform for victims to be heard, and systematically identify those who collaborated with the repressive machinery. For supporters of the current suppression in Iran, this means a rigorous vetting process (often called lustration) where their past actions are scrutinized to determine their eligibility for future public roles, alongside criminal prosecutions for more severe involvements.
