The people are lovely, the towns are quiet and safe (with the exception of Bucharest which has the problems of any big city), the food is good and the scenery is amazing. Although we identify in the landscapes and architecture what we usually call "European airs", the atmosphere is quite different from the one breathed in the western part of the Old World.
