Interesting facts about Graduation Day
By the late 15th century, faculty members wore the gown thrown open at the front and folded back to show the fur lining of the inside. Later the fur was placed on the front and ran the length of the gowns. Vestiges of this practice are still seen today in the velvet on the front academic gowns.
