Following Typhoon Haiyan which impacted the nearby Philippines, Malaysia had one of the largest generosity growth spurts of any country on this list. It went from 71st all the way to 6th. Probably due to a desire to respond to the disaster, Malaysia is now ranked 10th in time spent volunteering, 15th in donating money, and 19th in helping strangers. Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying parts of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It's known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultural influences. The capital, Kuala Lumpur, is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang and skyscrapers such as the iconic, 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers.
