Psoriasis, acne, and other skin diseases can be caused by stress. Scientists conducted research among students, and it showed a direct connection between a high level of psychological stress and skin problems. An experiment with mice gave the same result. The animals that were exposed to large doses of stress were more susceptible to skin infections.“When you're feeling stress, your body releases chemicals that can cause inflammation and make your skin even more sensitive,” says Erin Lester, MD, a family medicine physician at Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Solana Beach. “This can trigger a flare-up.”
