The Woman Behind 'Self-Made Man'

Vincent was working as an editor at a publishing house when she began the immersive journalism that led to her 2006 literary debut, “Self-Made Man.” She weight-trained to build her muscles and cut her hair short before she began dressing as a man, then learned to simulate stubble and speak in deeper tones, bound her breasts, and wore men’s clothing for 18 months.
