Why do rich people send their children to study abroad?

According to Hurun, ten years ago Canada and Australia reigned supreme as "overseas study countries" because of their high proportions of citizens with Chinese roots. Since parents wanted to send their kids somewhere where they had friends, family and other people they could rely on, these were often the only two options.
