A ferocious winter storm in the US has caused at least 50 deaths

Driving bans were put in place last weekend amid the busy Christmas season, to try and help keep citizens safe. Some victims died due to overexposure to freezing temperatures or passed away as they were left without heat in their homes following power shortages. Shoveling or other snow-clearing activity led to health issues some of which resulted in further deaths. The emergency services were delayed in responding to medical emergencies, due to the treacherous road conditions.
